D.I.Y.

Tonight I was inspired to cook dinner. While not a big deal to many people, this is huge for me. The menu was simple: baked chicken strips in buffalo wing sauce, pasta shells in a creamy garlic sauce (store-bought mix; I know) and a starter salad plate with chopped mixed greens, sliced red bell peppers (so sweet!) and tomatoes.

It was delicious. Now I wonder why I waste money eating out when I'm capable in the kitchen.

Sounds delish! I made stroganoff last night, and while it tasted good, it looked kind of vomitous. Your dinner sounds much prettier :)

Oh, I *love* stroganoff! What amazed me about my supper was that usually, as much as I adore buffalo wings and buffalo wing hot sauce, it can upset my tummy. But last night? Totally didn't happen. I chalk it up to making everything fresh - at home - instead of sucking down a ton of sloppy, pre-made, greasy preservatives.

Also, credit Food Network's newest star, Ellie Krieger of "Healthy Appetite," for getting me to bake the chicken strips instead of frying them, as you'd normally think to do w/buffalo chicken. Simple idea; delicious and healthy results.

This is in direct opposition to the horrorshow that is "Semi-Homemade With Sandra Lee." This morning, that sham "cook" actually advocated slathering corn ears with a mixture of butter and - I kid you not - Kraft macaroni and cheese PRE-PACKAGED CHEESE POWDER. What she has against fresh ingredients and keeping food nutritious I just do NOT understand.

Hate, Hate, Hate Sandra Lee!

Good deal on the chicken. Buffalo wings are a kind of specialty of mine. My brother requests them quite a bit. I deep fry mine though. I also make my own sauce with butter and Frank's Red Hot sauce. It's tasty.

Funny enough, I think I glanced by that episode of "Healthy Appetite" and thought to myself that the chicken looked tasty with that salad she made to put it on. I also thought the spicy almonds she made in that episode looked good.

I cruise the Craigslist food forum for cooking ideas. Except for the flaming and pettiness they have some good ideas and tips. They also have good restaurant recommendations for when you don't want to cook at home.
